Kolb notches first career goal to give Pointers victory over St. Mary's

WINNONA, Minn. - Max Bobrow (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic) each tallied their first goals of the season on Friday evening as the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team defeated St. Mary's 3-2 in nonconference action at SMU Ice Arena.

After a scoreless first period, UW-Stevens Point took 2-0 lead off power-play goals by Chad Boeckman (St. Louis, MO/Wentzville Holt) and Bobrow. 

St. Mary's responded with a power-play goal of its own with two minutes remaining in the second and added the equalizer 1:10 into the third to knot the score at 2-2.

Kolb scored his first of the season with just under five minutes remaining in the game off assists from Luke Nesper (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) and Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH), putting the Pointers in front by one.

The Pointers held off a late flurry by the Cardinals to secure the 3-2 victory. 

Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) tallied 22 saves on the evening while St. Mary's Andy Scheib made 17 of his 32 saves in the third.

UW-Stevens Point (7-7-2) returns to the ice in Northfield, Minn., on Saturday afternoon for another nonconference match-up, this time against St. Olaf. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
