HANCOCK, Mich. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team completed a weekend sweep, defeating Finlandia 6-1 on Saturday.
After a scoreless first period,
Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield) scored an unassisted power-play goal just 20 seconds into the second period.
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) notched the second UWSP goal at the 13:45 mark off assists from
Janel Winters (Fairbanks, AK/West Valley) and
Megan Nickelson (North St. Paul, MN/North).
Two minutes later,
Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) scored off assists from Marvin and
Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) to take a 3-0 lead.
Finlandia quickly responded, scoring at 17:05 to come within two goals.
The third period was all UWSP, as three more Pointers tallied goals.
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL/Central) scored the first goal of the period at 2:43 of an assist from Lunneborg while Salmen scored ten minutes later thanks to assists from Nicole Shaub and
Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes).
Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) wrapped the scoring frenzy, scoring an unassisted shorthanded goal with just under four minutes left in the period to give the Pointers the 6-1 victory.
Goaltender
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) earned the win, recording 11 saves on the day.
UWSP (8-5-2, 7-2-1 NCHA) return to action Friday as it hosts St. Scholastica for a weekend series. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Friday and 2:30 on Saturday at Ice Hawks Arena.
