Women's hockey falls to St. Thomas, 3-1

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team suffered a 3-1 nonconference to the Tommies of St. Thomas on Tuesday evening in nonconference action.
 
The Tommies struck first in the game's opening period, scoring on the power play at the 10:28 mark. St. Thomas extended their lead in the early minutes of the second period to go in front 3-0 after two periods.
 
In the third, Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) scored her fourth goal of the season on the power play just 1:20 in, but St. Thomas freshman goaltender Chelsea Sitzmann turned away every UWSP shot on target the remainder of the period to secure her first collegiate victory.
 
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) took the loss, recording five saves in 24:59 minutes of action. Johanna Sommers (Rhinelander, WI/Rhinelander) tallied 12 saves in 33 minutes of backup play.
 
UW-Stevens Point (6-5-2) returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14, with a series in Handcock, Mich. against Finlandia University.
