STEVENS POINT – Reigning Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women's soccer Player of the Week Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI/Hartford) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season on Wednesday afternoon to help lift the Pointers to a 1-0 win over the Eagles of Edgewood College.

Greer tallied the game's lone goal at the 40 minute mark of the opening half, sending home a pass from Jennifer Jobke and into the back of the net for the 1-0 edge.

In the second half the Pointer defense allowed just two Eagle shots, none on target, holding on for the nonconference victory.

UW-Stevens Point has now won all 10 meetings between the two schools on the soccer pitch.

Brittany Marx (Washburn, WI/Washburn) tallied just one save on the afternoon to secure her fourth victory of the season, her third by way of shutout.

UW-Stevens Point (4-1) opens conference play on Saturday, Sept. 17 when the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire come to Stevens Point for a 1 p.m. kick-off at the Point Soccer Bowl. Fans are encouraged to bring items to the game the team will then donate to care packages for troops.
