MINNEAPOLIS – The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming & diving teams closed out the 2010-11 regular season over the weekend at the University of Minnesota Challenge. No team scores were kept at the event.
In preparation for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, several Pointer swimmers were gearing up for competition while several swimmers were seeing their last action of the year.
Women's Highlights included:
Colleen Baker (Rosemont, MN/) and Lauren Alexander (Gurnee, IL/) had great meets and will end up joining the conference team in two weeks.
Lauren Golla (Plover/SPASH) had great last swims with a 4:51.75 in the 400 IM, a 2:20.09 in the 200 back, 2:18.94 in 200 IM, and a personal best in the 200 breast with a 2:39.46.
Bobbi Bartman (Slinger/Slinger) had great last swims with a 1:06.54 in the 100 back, a 5:52.85 in the 500 free, and a personal best by four seconds in the 200 back with a 2:22.67.
Meredith Latimer (Grand Rapids, MN/Grand Rapids) had great last swims with a 5:45.19 in the 500 free, a 26.84 in the 50 free, a 2:07.95 in the 200 free, and a 58.77 in the 100 free.
Kim Kuber (Tomahawk, WI/) had great last swims with a 2:02.55 in the 200 free, a 26.18 in the 50 free, and a 57.17 in the 100 free.
Men's Highlights included:
Dan Kalupski (Chicago, IL/) had a great meet and came up with the final conference spot for the men's team.
Jeff Peterson (Verona, WI/) had a personal best in the 100 breast clocking an impressive 58.54.
Freshman Ben Drexler (Florence/) had a great meet with personal best times in 2 of his 3 events; a 1:45.1 in his 200 free, and a 48.07 in his 100 free.
Lance Grenzow (McFarland/) had personal bests in his freestyle events with a 22.18 in his 50 free, and a 49.4 in his 100 free.
Next up for the Pointers are the 2011 WIAC Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 17-19 at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis. UW-Stevens Point will serve as the host of the annual event.
