Pointers Win Fourth Straight with 3-2 Victory Over Saints

Box Score

DULUTH- Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) scored a pair of first period goals to help lead the Pointers past St. Scholastica 3-2 Saturday in an NCHA contest.

Marvin got going early in the game as she scored 5:59 into the game to make the score 1-0.  Marvin scored off assists from Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) and Megan Nickelson (North St. Paul, MN/North).

The Saints had an answer as they scored with 45 seconds remaining in the opening period to make the score 1-1.  Libby Guzzo scored the goal and Jordan Klimek and Kiana Leisz had assists on the play.

Nine seconds later the Pointers responded with a goal as Marvin found the back of the net for the second time in the period, giving the Pointers a 2-1 lead.  Carothers got her second assist of the game on the play.

After a scoreless second period, Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) scored her 16th goal of the season to give the Pointers a 3-1 advantage.  Tanzer's goal was a shorthanded goal and Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) was credited with the assist.

The Saints made things interesting as they made it a 3-2 game with 59 seconds remaining when Klimek put one past the goalie.  That would be all the scoring in the game as the Pointers held on to the one goal lead in the final minute of play.

Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) picked up the win in net for the Pointers as she made 19 saves.  The victory was the 12th of the season for Pomering.

The win pushed the Pointers record to 12-6-1 and they are now 9-6-1 in NCHA play.  They find themselves on a four game win streak, which is their longest since they opened the season up with six straight wins.

The Pointers will return to action next Friday as they will be hosting UW-Superior in a weekend series.  Friday night's game is set for 7:00 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
