ADRIAN, Mich. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team saw its 2010-11 season come to an end on Saturday afternoon as they fell 3-1 to the Bulldogs of Adrian College in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) playoffs.
The seventh-seeded Pointers finish the season with a 13-11-3 record. Adrian College (17-7-3) advances to the semifinal round of the tournament next weekend.
Adrian took a 2-0 lead in the game's opening period off a pair of goals from Danielle Smith.
The Pointers' Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) tallied the loan goal of the game on the power play just before time expired in the second period, sending home a shot off a pass from Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) and Samantha Scheving (Warroad, MN/Warroad). The goal cut the Bulldog lead in half, 2-1.
Adrian added a final goal in the third to push their advantage back to two goals as Stacey Kempson lit the lamp with her 14th goal of the season.
Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) finished the day with 28 saves while Adrian's Emily Michelin turned away 34 of UWSP's 35 shots on target.
