ADRIAN, Mich. – Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield)'s power play goal near the end of the second period tied the game at one but it was not enough as Adrian College tallied two goals in the third period to hand the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team a 3-1 loss in the opening round of the 2011 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Quarterfinals Friday evening.
The Pointers (13-10-3) and Bulldogs (16-7-3) return to the ice at 2 p.m. Eastern on Saturday in the second game of the opening round two game series. If the Pointers win, they force a decisive mini-game immediately following tomorrows contest.
Adrian got on the board first, scoring 7:25 into the first period as the host Bulldogs took the early lead.
Lunneborg tallied her eighth goal of the season at the 17:06 mark of the second, tying the score at 1-1.
In the third Adrian tacked on two power play goals, one at the 6:12 mark and another at the 8:30 mark to go back in front and earn the eventual victory.
UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) tallied 32 saves in goal while Adrian keeper Emily Michelin turned away 22 of the 23 Pointer shots on net.
