CEDARBURG- The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team closed out their 2010-11 regular season with a 2-2 tie against Concordia University on Saturday afternoon.
The Pointers got things going early as they scored 6:56 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Pointers first goal was scored Sam Lorr (Chisago, MN/Chisago Lakes) as Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) and Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) recorded assists on the play.
The two teams would not score the rest of the first period as the Pointers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Then it was Marvin's turn to find the back of the net as she scored 1:40 into the 2nd period to give the Pointers a 2-0 lead. Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) picked up an assist on the Pointers second goal.
Concordia answered that goal as they scored 10:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 going into the third period.
The only goal scored in the third period came courtesy of Concordia's Sarah Luberda as she tied the game up at two goals apiece with 12:15 left in regulation.
The Pointers had their opportunities in overtime as they out shot Concordia six to zero in extra time, but Concordia goalkeeper Lea Jondal turned away all six shots.
Pointer goalkeeper Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) had another solid game in net as she finished with 22 saves for the game.
The tie gave the Pointers a 9-8-3 conference record as they finished with 21 points in conference play. The Pointers will be either the six or seven seed when the NCHA Tournament starts next week.
The Pointers seed will be determined by the outcome of the St. Norbert game tonight. If the Green Knights lose, the Pointers will be the six seed, any other result gives the Pointers the seven seed.
The Pointers will be on the road next weekend at either UW-Superior or Adrian College and their first game will be Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
