CEDARBURG – Kristen Selbach (Madison/James Madison) tallied her first goal of the season on Friday night but the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team fell to Concordia (Wis.) 6-1 at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
The loss knocks the Pointer women out of contention for home ice in next week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) playoffs. UWSP can finish anywhere from the No. 5 seed all the way to No. 8 depending on the outcome of the remaining games.
The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the game's opening period before Selbach tallied UW-Stevens Point's only goal of the night.
In the second, Concordia added another goal and tacked on three more in the third including two empty netters to cruise to the 6-1 victory.
Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) tallied 15 saves while Concordia's Lea Jondal stopped 27 of the Pointers 28 shots on net.
UW-Stevens Point (13-9-2, 9-8-2 NCHA) and Concordia (12-9-3, 10-6-3 NCHA) close out the regular season Saturday afternoon when the teams take to the ice for a 2 p.m. match-up.
