MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team posted a 4-1 victory on Friday evening at Dunn County Ice Arena over the Blue Devils of UW-Stout.
The win last Saturday evening, combined with the victory Friday mark the first back-to-back wins by the Pointers this season.
UW-Stevens Point Jumped in front 1-0 on a first period shorthanded goal by
Chad Boeckman (St. Louis, MO/Wentzville Holt), his first score of the season.
In the second,
Luke Nesper (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) tallied his third goal of the year, assisted by Will Aid and
Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) to give UWSP the two goal edge.
Dylan Wizner (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji) and
Scott Henegar (Trenton, MI/Trenton) each tallied their first goals of the season in the second period as well to extend the Pointers lead to 4-0.
Stout added a power play goal late in the second period to cut the Pointer lead to 4-1 but
Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) stopped all eight shots the Blue Devils put on target in the third to preserve the victory.
UW-Stevens Point out-shot the Blue Devils 47-33 on the night in a game marred by 21 penalties.
UWSP (4-6-2, 3-4-2 NCHA) and Stout (5-6-1, 2-4-1 NCHA) return to the ice Saturday evening in Menomonie for the final game of the weekend series between the two teams.
