Men take first, women second in Wheaton Invite

WHEATON, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's swimming and diving team finished in first place at the Wheaton Invitational Swim Meet while the women's team took second this weekend.

The Pointer men easily finished ahead of second place Washington University (St. Louis) by 202 points. Hope finished in third with 589 points, Wheaton finished in fourth with 562.5, UW-Whitewater finished fifth with 437.5 and North Central finished sixth with 12. On the women's side the margin was just 25 over Wash. U (791). Host Wheaton finished in third with 734, Hope finished fourth with 506 points, UW-Whitewater fifth with 304 points and North Central finished with 93 points.

Highlights from day two of competition included the men's 400 freestyle relay team setting a new pool record and earned an automatic qualifying mark by nearly three full seconds, posting a time of 3:01.9 in the final.  The team was comprised of seniors Sam Davy and Ryan Farmer along with juniors Eric Emerson and Joey Clapp.

Individually, Farmer also won the 100 butterfly in an automatic qualifying time of 49.01. Clapp won the 50 freestyle in a NCAA “B” cut time of 20.85 after posting a time of 20.32, a new pool and meet record, in the prelims. 

On the women's side, Kelly Kading, who secured an individual title on day one in the 100 breaststroke, helped her 200 free relay teamates Ashley Majewski, Amy Boritzke and Andrea Wagner earn a "B" cut time with their time of 1:36.49 in the event. In the women's 800 freestyle relay, Colleen Baker, Colleen Baker, Wagner and Whitney Boehme also took home an event championship with their time of 7:50.73.

The relay team of Boritzke, Kading, Majewski and Wagner also took home an event title in the women's 200 medley in a time of 1:49.03.

The Pointers will now take an extended break and return to action in 2012 when they host the Get to the Point invite January 20-21 in Stevens Point.
