FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women's hockey team continued its winning ways as the Pointers defeated Marian University 5-2 Saturday afternoon.
Marian got on the board first, scoring on an Amanda Waigand goal in the first period. However, the Pointers responded in the second period, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes.
Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) scored her first goal of the season at 2:06 off a
Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) assist while teammate
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) chipped in a goal of her own, scoring at the seven minute mark, unassisted.
Marian tied the game three minutes later off a Kristin Skubic goal. But the Pointers took the lead for good with just under five minutes remaining in the period as
Ava Plamondon (Blackhawk, CO/Nederland) found the back of the net off an
Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) assist.
The third period was all UWSP as the Pointers added two more goals thanks to scores from
Megan Nickelson (North St. Paul, MN/North) on the assist from
Sierra Dart (Kenosha, WI/Tremper) while Salmen tallied her second goal of the day, scoring unassisted at the 9:28 mark.
Sierra Dart (Kenosha, WI/Tremper) earned her first win of the season, recording 15 saves for the Pointers while Marian's Kaytlin Ruzicka tallied 38.
UWSP (3-0-1) will be back in action Friday, November 18, as it hosts UW-River Falls at 7:00 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
