STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Gustavus Aldolphus scored a goal with 16.6 seconds remaining in overtime to spoil the Pointers' comeback as they fell 2-1 Saturday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.
Ross Ring-Jarvi put the Gusties on the board in the second period on an unassisted power play goal.
Luke Nesper (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) brought the Pointers back to even early in the third period as he found the upper left corner of the net to put UW-Stevens Point back in the game.
Kevin Gibson (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) and
Kyle Politz (Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley) were credited with assists.
With time winding down in overtime, Ring-Jarvi knocked in his own rebound with 16.6 remaining and gave the Gusties a 2-1 victory.
Gustavus Aldolphus goalie John McLean was credited with the win stopping 36 shots on 37 chances.
Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) was saddled with the loss stopping 24 shots on 26 chances.
UWSP could not take advantage of its power play opportunities as it were 0-for-7 while Gustavus Aldolphus was 1-for-6.
UW-Stevens Point (2-3-0) will return to action next weekend as it hosts a two-game series against UW-River Falls Friday and Saturday evening for a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association matchup. Puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. for both games.
