STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women's hockey team notched its first conference victory on Friday evening, defeating Marian University 4-2 at Ice Hawks Arena.
UW-Stevens Point started the game strong as
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) scored 10 minutes in on an assist from
Steph Lepak (Antigo, WI/Antigo).
UWSP struck twice in the second period, scoring twice within two minutes on goals from
Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) and
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL/Central).
Megan Nickelson (North St. Paul, MN/North) was credited assists for both goals while Hanson also assisted the Greenen goal.
Marian put its first goal on the board later in the second period on a goal by Rachel Mullendore.
In the final frame, both squads tallied a goal, with the UWSP scoring at the 2:55 mark.
Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) notched her second goal of the season on the
Hannah Smith (Spokane, WA/East Valley) assist. Marian's Amanda Waigand added the final goal of the game, scoring at 11:54, unassisted.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) recorded 10 saves for the Pointers while Marian's Amanda Alexander tallied 41.
The two squads will take the ice again Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. match-up in Fond du Lac.
