STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team suffered its first conference loss of the season on Friday night, falling 5-2 to the Falcons of UW-River Falls.
The visiting Falcons put the first goal on the board 10 minutes into the first period on a Katie Flanagan wrister. Four minutes later, the Falcons found the back of the net again off the stick of Alice Cranston.
The Pointers quickly responded, as
Megan Nickelson (North St. Paul, MN/North) scored at the 16:10 mark of the first with assists from
Ava Plamondon (Blackhawk, CO/Nederland) and
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View).
The second and third periods were dominated by the Falcons as they scored three more goals to take a 5-1 lead.
The Pointers were able to capitalize on a power play in the third period as Marvin scored on assists from
Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and
Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) at 17:12.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) took the loss for the Pointers, recording 20 saves while Melissa Deardorff tallied 14 saves for the Falcons.
The Pointers (3-1-1) and Falcons (5-0-0) will face off again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
