RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but the fifth-ranked UW-River Falls Falcons tallied two goals in the final two periods, as both teams skated to a 2-2 tie Friday evening at Hunt Arena.
Junior
Johnny Meo (Vernon Hills, IL/Ursuline) put the Pointers on the board with his first goal of the season, assisted by Max Babrow nine minutes into the first period.
In the second,
Kyle Politz (Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley) added a shorthanded goal pushing the Pointers lead to two goals.
The Falcons started their comeback later in the second as Alec Hagaman tallied his fifth goal of the season on a power play, cutting the Pointers lead to one.
UWSP held the lead late into the third period but Jeff Burke's first goal of the season tied the game, forcing an extra period.
UWRF outshot UWSP 7-1 in the extra frame but freshman
Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) kept the Falcons off the board resulting in a 2-2 tie.
Jaeger tallied 31 saves in his second start of the season while UWRF's Scott Lewan stopped 24.
UW-Stevens Point (2-4-2, 1-2-2 NCHA) returns to action tomorrow as they wrap-up their two-game series with the Falcons in River Falls. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
