Results

MADISON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point tennis team played its way to a fifth-place finish in the seven-team field at the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIA) Women's Tennis Championship at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Pointers accumulated eight team points, six at the championship and two for their regular-season record of 1-5.

Rachel Brown (Neenah, WI/St. Mary Central) was the only Pointer to win a match during the championship, winning her first-round match in the No. 1 singles flight against UW-La Crosse's Jenny Maruyama 6-3, 6-3. In the second round Brown was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by the top-seeded Kalla Schaefer of UW-Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater took home its fifth straight WIAC title and 12th in program history with 21 overall points. The Warhawks won all six singles flights and all three doubles flights on their way to the title.

UW-Whitewater, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh and UW-La Crosse advance to the team tournament in the spring to determine the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Warhawks will host the four-team event.
