Results from the 2011 Purple/Gold swim meet

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point swimming and diving team hosted its annual Purple versus Gold Intrasquad meet on Saturday, October 22 at the UWSP Aquatic Center.
 
After a day of impressive swimming and friendly intrasquad competition, Purple defeated Gold, with the women's Purple team winning 140.5-92.5 and the men's team winning 124-105.
 
Some of the highlighted swims of the day included swims by junior Andrea Wagner, freshman Matthew Parks, junior Joey Clapp, sophomore Nicole Steinburg and junior Zack Desy. Wagner, swimming for the Purple team, handily won both the sprint freestyle events, clocking times of 25.89 in the 50 freestyle and 56.31 in the 100 freestyle.
 
Parks looks to make a statement his freshman season as he put up a good swim in the men's first individual event of the year. Clocking in a time of 10:22.47, Parks convincingly won the 1000 freestyle for the Gold team. Luuk Dekkers also helped to tally points for the Gold team by placing second in the 1000 freestyle, with a time of 10:26.66. Clapp, who won the 50 freestyle in a 21.29, and out touched Junior Eric Emerson who had a solid time of 22.41.
 
Steinburg had overall had a great day. The sophomore won the 1000 freestyle in a 11:35.81, then winning again in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:38.07.  Desy comfortably won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:05. 22 and also helped the Purple team to a second place finish in the 400 Medley relay (3:46.30).
 
The women's and men's team head to Eau Claire next week for a tri-dual. The Pointers will take on the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds and St. Cloud State Huskies on Saturday starting at 1p.m.
