Pointers Unable to Hold Late Lead at Lake Forest

Box Score

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The tenth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team erased an early three goal deficit and led 5-4 early in the third period but Lake Forest scored the final three goals of the game to hand the Pointers a 7-5 defeat in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action Tuesday evening.

A flurry of goals marked a busy opening period for the scoreboard operator, as the Foresters took a three goal edge by the 10:27 mark.

Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) began the Pointer comeback with her seventh goal of the season at the 10:52 mark of the opening period. Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) each added goals over the next nine minutes to erase the early deficit and tie the game at 3-3.

Lake Forest's Melissa Kravich tallied a goal at the 19:15 mark of the first to once again give the Foresters an edge before the action drew to a close on period one.

After 19 minutes and 58 seconds of scoreless action in the second period, Sam Lorr (Chisago, MN/Chisago Lakes) tallied her fifth goal of the season to again tie the score, 4-4, as she scored with just one tick left on the clock.

Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) got into the scoring action at the start of the third period with her second goal of the season, giving the Pointers their first lead of the game just 1:07 in.

Just over two minutes later Lake Forest scored the equalizer and tallied two more goals down the stretch over the final minutes to hand the Pointers just their second loss of the season, both coming at the sticks of the Foresters.

Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) registered 29 saves in net for the Pointers while the Foresters Alyssa Wintermute stopped 31 Pointer shots.

UW-Stevens Point (8-2, 4-2 NCHA) will look to rebound on Friday as they kick-off a weekend series against the Falcons of UW-River Falls in River Falls. Game time for both days is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
