Men First, Women Second at 2011 Point Invite

Results

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point men's team totaled 1133.5 points on Saturday afternoon to cruise to a first place finish at the 2011 Point Invite. The women's team collected 845 points to finish second in the seven team field. 

The event was the final home swim meet for the Pointers who now have just two tune-up meets left before hosting the 2011 WIAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis.

The Pointer men dominated the meet, scoring almost twice as many points as 2nd place finisher UW-La Crosse. Individual highlights from the day included:

Sam Davy (Stevens Point, WI/) won the 200 IM and 100 Free, and placed 2nd in the 100 breast

Matthew Olp (Oregon/Oregon) won the 200 and 100 breast, and placed 2nd in the 50 free

Joey Clapp (Faribault, MN/) won the 50 free, and placed 2nd 100 free, and 3rd in the 100 fly

Freshman Ben Drexler (Florence/) won the 200 free.

The Pointer men also won all of the relays. They ended the meet with a bang finishing 1-2 in the 400 free relay.

On the women's side, the Pointers battled with conference rivals UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire throughout the meet and fell just short of the Eagles in the final tally.

Highlights included:

Beth Ann Abraham won the 200 and 400 IM posting dominating times in each event.

Andrea Wagner (Apple Valley, MN/) won the 100 free
Lisa Clemens (Wisconsin Dells, WI/) won the 100 fly

Jennifer Bussey (Ohanhassen, MN/Chaska), Kelly Kading (De Pere, WI/), and Madalyn Pielow (Robbinsdale, MN/) went 2-3-4 in the 100 breast, respectively

Bussey placed 2nd in the 200 breast

Ashley Majewski (Elm Grove, WI/Catholic Memorial) and Jessica Nordstrom (Hibbing, MN/Hibbing) went 2-3 in the 50 free

The Pointer women won both the 200 and 400 medley relays, and placed 2nd in the 200 free relay.

The Pointers return to action next Saturday, Jan. 29 at the UW-La Crosse Duals in La Crosse.
