STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team started off their 2010 season with a 5-4 win over Carroll University on Saturday afternoon at Goerke Park.
The match of the day was the final match where Pointer sophomore
Katelyn Presti won her number three singles match over Elissa McKinley. Presti lost the first set 2-6 before battling back to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-4 to give the Pointers to victory.
Also winning in singles action for the Pointers were
Rachel Brown (Neenah, WI/St. Mary Central) and
Leah Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH).
Taylor Weuve (Green Bay, WI/Preble),
Allison Fortier (Rhinelander, WI/Rhinelander), and Laura Landt all came up short in their singles match.
The number one doubles team of Brown and Weuve won their match over the Pioneers top doubles team of Kate Rasmussen and Alyssa Larson.
The number three doubles team of Fortier and
Monica Preisig (Wausau, WI/West) also won their doubles match by a score of 8-3 to help the Pointers to victory.
The Pointers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Ripon College to take on the Red Hawks. The match will start at 4:00 p.m.
