STEVENS POINT – The Pointer women's tennis team used a straight set victory by Allison Fortier (Rhinelander, WI/Rhinelander) at No. 6 singles to pick up a 5-4 victory over UW-Stout in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action Saturday morning at Goerke Park.

Leading 2-1 after the doubles, the Pointes earned key victories from Fortier at No. 6 and Rachel Brown (Neenah, WI/St. Mary Central), who logged a come-from-behind victory at No. 1 to help the Pointers to the victory. Brown trailed her singles match 5-2 in the first set but came storming back to take the set 7-5 and then logged a 6-4 victory in the second set.

Monica Preisig (Wausau, WI/West) earned the other singles victory on the day for the Pointers, helping the team to their first conference victory of the year.

The Pointers (3-2, 1-1 WIAC) travel to Beloit College for another nonconference tilt on Sunday. The Pointers and Buccaneers square off at 11 a.m.
