STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team got back on track Wednesday afternoon, snapping a two match losing streak with a 6-3 nonconference victory over the Vikings of Lawrence University.
Originally scheduled for outdoors at the Goerke Park, the match was moved indoors to the Multi-Activity Center in the Health Enhancement Center due to rain in the area.
The Pointers kicked things off capturing two of three doubles matches, led by
Rachel Brown (Neenah, WI/St. Mary Central) and
Taylor Weuve (Green Bay, WI/Preble) earning an 8-3 victory at No. 1. The No. 2 tandem of
Katelyn Presti (Janesville, WI/Parker) and
Leah Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH) earned the other victory, 8-5.
In singles action, four Pointers picked up victories to help close out the win. Brown earned a straight set victory at No. 1 while
Monica Preisig (Wausau, WI/West), Benn and
Allison Fortier (Rhinelander, WI/Rhinelander) all needed a third set tiebreak to secure victories.
The Pointers (2-2, 0-1 WIAC) will try and pick up their first conference win of the season on Saturday when they host the Blue Devils of UW-Stout at Goerke Park at 10 a.m. The Pointers will then be in action on Sunday in Beloit. Originally scheduled to play two matches, the Pointers will now face only the Buccaneers of Beloit College in an 11 a.m. match.
