Swimming Extends Lead at WIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women's swimming & diving team maintained its lead following the second of three days of competition at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship that is being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Pointer men's team also extended its lead at the championships.

Through the first two days of events, the Pointers have collected 585 team points to outdistance the 511 points of two-time defending champion UW-La Crosse. UW-Eau Claire is third with 503.50 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 248.50 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 151 points and UW-River Falls sixth with 124 points.

UW-Stevens Point's Lisa Clemens was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.95, while teammate Kelly Kading captured the 100-yard breaststroke with a clocking of 1:05.19.

UW-La Crosse's Chelsea Hoff became the first individual in WIAC archives to win three consecutive titles in the 100-yard backstroke. She secured this year's crown with a conference meet record performance of 55.56.

The Eagles also received a first-place performance from Katelyn Hartung who claimed the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.30.

Hoff and Hartung also participated on winning 200-yard medley relay squad that recorded a time of 1:45.71. They were united on the team with Brianna Peyer and Taylor Smith.

UW-Eau Claire's Nicole Dorvinen earned the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:28.72 and was a member of victorious 800-yard freestyle relay team that posted a time of 7:45.04. She was joined on the relay by Casey Preissel, Hannah Ramquist and Kirsten Lickel.

MINNEAPOLIS--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point extended its advantage following the second of three days of competition at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championship that is being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The ten-time defending champion Pointers have compiled 669 team points to surpass UW-La Crosse's second-place sum of 564 points. UW-Eau Claire is third with 330 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 321 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 239 points and UW-River Falls sixth with 105 points.

UW-Stevens Point claimed three individual titles and two relay crowns during the second day of events. Zach Desy (Escanaba, MI/) captured the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:07.55, while Sam Davy (Stevens Point, WI/) earned the 200-yard freestyle with a clocking of 1:42.63. Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL/) was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.18.

Desy, Davy and Farmer teamed with Brent Schwartz (Waukesha/South) on the triumphant 800-yard freestyle relay squad that posted a time of 6:55.00.

Farmer also participated on the winning 200-yard medley relay quartet that had a time of 1:32.54. He was joined by Matthew Olp, Ben Schreiber (Albert Lea, MN/Albert Lea) and Joey Clapp (Faribault, MN/).

UW-La Crosse's Matt Diehl won the 100-yard breaststroke for the second straight year with a performance of 56.21, while teammate Kevin Misener earned the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.76.

UW-Oshkosh's Phil Devine secured the one-meter diving competition for the second straight year with 491.45 points to mark the second consecutive season that he has captured both diving titles.
