Pointer Men & Women in First after Day One


Results

MINNEAPOLIS--Ten-time defending champion, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point splashed to the lead  following the first of three days of competition at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championship at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Pointers accumulated 276 team points during the first day of events to exceed UW-La Crosse's second-place sum of 262 points.  UW-Eau Claire is third with 163 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 131 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 100 points and UW-River Falls sixth with 28 points.

UW-Stevens Point's opening day was highlighted by a winning effort from the 400-yard medley relay squad of Matt Olp, Brent Schwartz, Ryan Farmer and Sam Davy.  The quartet completed the event with a time of 3:23.30.

UW-La Crosse claimed three individual titles and one relay crown.  Justin Dembski successfully defended his title in the 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 4:40.11.  Spencer Loch won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.61 and Matt Diehl claimed the 200-yard individual medley with a clocking of 1:52.87.

Loch and Diehl were also members of the triumphant 200-yard freestyle relay quartet with a conference meet record time of 1:22.41.  The duo was joined by Benjamin Knudsen and Joel Knuesel.

UW-Oshkosh's Phil Devine secured the three-meter diving event for the second straight year with 491.15 points.

MINNEAPOLIS--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point jumped to the lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Pointers accumulated 274 team points during the first day of events to surpass two-time defending champion, UW-La Crosse's second-place total of 243 points.  UW-Eau Claire is third with 241.50 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 99.50 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 76 points and UW-River Falls sixth with 60 points.

UW-La Crosse's Chelsea Hoff became the first individual in WIAC history to win three consecutive 50-yard freestyle titles with a time of 23.13.   Hoff also was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay quartet that posted a time of 1:34.59.  Brianna Peyer, Abby Diehl and Katelyn Hartung teamed with Hoff in the event.

UW-La Crosse's Rachel LaValley won the one-meter diving competition with 393.50 points.

UW-Eau Claire earned a pair of titles during the first day as Nicole Dorvinen was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.36.  Kirsten Lickel captured the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.53.

The UW-Stevens Point quartet of Diandra Nero, Kelly Kading, Lisa Clemens and Lindsay Lukes teamed to win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.27.
