WHEATON, Ill. – UW-Stevens Point's Ryan Farmer achieved an automatic qualifying time in the men's 100 butterfly while two relay teams and two other individuals achieved National “B” cut times at the 2010 Wheaton Invitational Swim meet on Saturday afternoon.
The men finished the meet with 935.5 points, well outpacing the field for a first place finish ahead of Washington University (Mo.). After holding a narrow edge upon the completion of Friday's events, the women's team fell just off the pace and finished 2nd with 842 points in the six team field, 14 points behind first place finisher Wash U.
Farmer posted a time of 49.82 in the 100 fly, automatically qualifying him for Nationals in March.
The men's 200 medley relay team as well as the 400 free relay teams provisionally qualified for the national championships with their times in the respective events. The medley relay team of Matthew Olp, Matthew Teske, Farmer and Joey Clapp posted a time of 1:32.97 and Olp, Clapp, Farmer and Sam Davy posted a time of 3:04.57 in the 400 free relay.
Individually, Beth Ann Abraham posted a provisional qualifying time in the 400 IM with her time of 4:34.71. Lisa Clemens also posted a provisional qualifying time in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.01.
The Pointers are now off for the holiday break and return to action January 21-22 when they host the Get to the Point Invite. Action both days is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
