STEVENS POINT – The Pointer women's hockey team tallied five third period goals to help complete the weekend series sweep of the Finlandia University Lions on Saturday afternoon, notching a 6-0 victory in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action at Ice Hakws Arena.
Kelsea Martalock (Tomah/Culver Academy) tallied the Pointers loan goal of the first period, scoring at the 11:30 mark unassisted.
After a scoreless second period, the Pointers' offense came alive in the game's final period, as Ava Plamadon started the scoring with an even strength goal just 1:04 into the third.
Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield), Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville), Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) and Keela Patterson (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) all chipped in goals the rest of the way, as the Pointers picked up two points in the conference standings.
The Pointers out-shot the Lions 41-4 on the afternoon.
In her first action of the season, Carley Gorecki earned the victory in net, stopping all four shots on net by Finlandia.
UW-Stevens Point (8-1-0, 4-1-0 NCHA) are now off for the holiday break and will return to action January 4 with a conference tilt Tuesday evening against Lake Forest College in Illinois.
