Pointer men, women in lead after day one of Wheaton Invite

WHEATON, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming teams sit in first place after day one of the 2010 Wheaton Invitational Swim Meet. The Pointer women hold a 16 point edge over Washington University and the men hold a 114 point lead over the Bears of Wash U.

Highlights from day one included two men's automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, the men's 200 freestyle relay team reaching the automatic National cut time, Matthew Olp qualifying for Nationals in the 100 breaststroke and Sam Davy earning an automatic qualifying time in the 200 IM. 

The women's 200 free relay team, the men's 400 medley relay and Andrea Wagner also earned NCAA National B cut times, provisionally qualifying them for the National Championships. 

The men's 200 free relay team of Olp, Joey Clapp, Ryan Farmer and Davy posted a time of 1:22.59, a time that automatically qualifies the relay team for the Division III Championships in March. 

Olp posted a time of 56.74 in the 100 breast and Davy posted a time of 1:53.29 in the 200 IM.

The women's 200 free relay team of Lisa Clemens, Jessica Nordstrom, Ashley Majewski and Wagner posted a time of 1:36.41. 

The men's 400 medley relay team of Olp, Matthew Teske, Farmer and Davy got their "B" cut with a time of 3:24.75.

Individually, Wagner's time of 51.81 that provisionally qualified her for nationals was also a new team record. 

Freshman Dekkers added another bright spot on day one for the Pointers, posting a time of 4:42.68 in the 500 freestyle, just three seconds off the school record. 

Action resumes Saturday morning in Wheaton, Ill.
