Pointers Earn 4-2 Victory over St. Norbert in NCHA Opener

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team pushed its record to 5-0 and in the process picked up its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) victory on Friday evening with a 4-2 victory over first year program St. Norbert College at Ice Hawks Arena.

The match-up if the first of a home-and-home series between the two teams this weekend. 

Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL/Central) opened the scoring for the Pointers with a goal four minutes into the opening period off a pass from Sarah Dusold (Shoreview, MN/Irondale)

The Pointers tacked on another goal at the 7:48 mark of the second period as Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) found the back of the net with her team-leading fifth goal of the season, pushing the Pointers advantage to 2-0. 

The Green Knights responded at the 12 minute mark of the second period with a short-handed goal from Megan Steinmetz, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1. 

In the third period the Pointers added a third goal, again from Tanzer, her sixth of the season, giving the Pointers a two goal cushion, 3-1. 

St. Norbert answered with another short-handed goal, this time from Karissa Anderson, unassisted, to make the deficit just one goal again, 3-2. 

Dusold closed the scoring with her second point of the night with 1:23 remaining, netting her first goal of the season, an empty net score, making the score 4-2. 

Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) finished the game with 20 saves while her counterpart Kaley Gibson tallied 31. 

The Pointers and Green Knights return to action Saturday evening at the Resch Olympic Pavilion in De Pere. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
