STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming and diving teams each posted second place finishes on Saturday evening at the 2010 Border Battle, playing host to NCAA Division I and II opponents UW-Milwaukee, Minnesota-Mankato and the University of South Dakota.
The Pointer men finished with a total of 925 points, second only to UW-Milwaukee's 1140. On the women's side, the Pointers collected 925 points, again behind only DI UW-Milwaukee's 1160.
Key swims for the Pointer women included Andrea Wagner's (Apple Valley, MN) anchor leg of the 200 freestyle (23.75) and Beth Ann Abraham (Eden Prairie) in the 200 IM (2:13.20) and 400 IM (4:44.68).
On the men's side, the 200 freestyle relay team of Matthew Olp (Oregon), Joey Clapp (Fairbault, MN), Eric Emerson (River Falls) and Sam Davy (Stevens Point) posted a time of 1:24.01.
Individually, Olp posted a time of 52.29 in the 100 fly and Clapp finished just behind with a time of 52.46. Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL) posted a highlight time in the 100 fly (52.57) and Olp finished the 100 breaststroke in a time of 58.64.
The Pointers return to the water next weekend when they travel to La Crosse for the UW-La Crosse Duals.
