NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team completed the weekend sweep of the Oles of St. Olaf College on Saturday afternoon, skating to a 4-3 win at the Northfield Ice Arena.

The Pointers (2-0-0) used first period even strength goals from Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield) to build a 2-0 lead after the first period.

In the second, the Pointers added another goal by Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls), her second of the season, to give the Pointers a 3-0 advantage.

In the third period, the Oles tallied two goals in the first eight minutes to come storming back, cutting the Pointer lead to just one, 3-2.

Megan Nickelson (North St. Paul, MN/North) added a Pointer goal in the third to push the UWSP advantage back to two goals, 4-2.

The Oles added a goal at the 16:14 mark of the third to make it a one goal game, but Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) made 11 of her 18 saves in the final period to earn her second straight victory.

The Pointers return to Stevens Point and open the home portion of the 2010-11 schedule Friday evening against St. Thomas.
