Swimming opens season with tri-meet victories

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point swimming & diving teams opened their 2010-11 campaigns on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the St. Cloud University and UW-Eau Claire. 

The Pointer men's team swept the tri-dual, earning victories over both opponents while the women's team split the day, defeating Eau Claire but falling to NCAA Division II St. Cloud. 

Highlights on the men's side included victories from Matt Olp (Oregon/Oregon) in the 400 medley relay, 50 free and the 400 free relay. Sam Davy (Stevens Point, WI/) posted victories in the season opener in the 100 and 200 freestyle and was also a member of the 400 free relay winning team. 

Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL/) also posted highlight finishes on the afternoon for UWSP, winning the 100 butterfly as well as swimming on the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay teams. 

Highlighting the women's win included Beth Ann Abraham, who swam to victories over St. Cloud in the 500 and 1000 freestyle and and a victory over UW-Eau Claire in the 200 IM. 

The Pointers return to action with their second straight home meet of the season November 12-13 when they host Minn. – Mankato, South Dakota and UW-Milwaukee.
