VERONA, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point pitching staff kept the Edgewood College hitters off balance on Thursday afternoon and the Pointers used some timely hitting to complete a two game sweep of the Eagles, winning game one 5-0 before notching a 6-1 victory in the nightcap.
The win improves the Pointers to 14-8 overall. The Eagles drop to 15-6 overall and see their nine-game winning streak come to an end.
Garrett Nix (Osseo) pitched a gem in game one, going 8.1 innings while scattering five hits and striking out seven.
Jeff Zielke (Watertown)came on for the two out save, his third of the season.
At the plate,
Jared Surman (Kimberly) and
Brad Archambeau each collected three hits. Surman had a monster day, going deep twice and added three RBIs. Archambeau also connected on a home run, a solo shot in the eighth inning.
In game two,
Joel Delorit (Sturgeon Bay) picked up the win, his second of the season, going seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits, striking out 10, a career high. Zielke again came in to close out the final two innings, allowing one hit while collecting three strikeouts.
The Pointers plated six runs in game two, aided by seven Edgewood errors. Surman scored twice while

Jeremy Richter (Rosholt),
Jordan Rennicke (Mequon) and
Eric Fritz (Custer) each crossed home plate once in the victory.
