STEVENS POINT - The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point baseball team had its offense rolling on Tuesday, but only managed to win the second game of a doubleheader against non-conference opponent Ripon College at University Field.

The Pointers (12-8) put together a seven run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning of game one but still found themselves on the losing end of a 14-12 final, before rolling to a 13-3 win in game two, which was stopped in the seventh inning via the ten-run rule.

The win in the second game also put an end to a five game losing streak for UW-Stevens Point.

The Red Hawks plated six runs in the second inning of game one, with the help of four hits and three walks, and added eight more runs by the middle of the eighth inning. Down 14-5 with the bottom of the ninth, the Pointers clawed back with a grand slam by Jordan Rennicke (Mequon, Homestead) and a two run shot by Eric Fritz (Custer, SPASH), which aided in cutting the deficit to 14-12. A walk by Brad Archambeau (Watertown) gave Jeremy Richter (Rosholt/Rosholt) an opportunity to tie the game with another home run, but a fielder's choice ended the game.

Tyler Lorenz (Pembine, Pembine-Goodman) picked up the loss for UW-Stevens Point, after allowing eight runs and tallying seven strikeouts in his five innings. The Pointers only recorded seven hits; but took advantage of eight walks, two hit by pitches and four Ripon errors.

The UW-Stevens Point offense was just as efficient in the second game, putting up 13 runs on only nine hits. The Pointers benefited from seven walks, five hit by pitches and three more Red Hawk errors.

UW-Stevens Point scored five runs in the first two innings off only four hits, and added four more runs with one hit in the fourth as three walks preceded a grand slam from Fritz. The Pointers stretched their 9-3 lead to 13-3 two frames later, with a Sam Spurney (Manitowoc, Lincoln) home run in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth. The Red Hawks did not pull closer in the top of the seventh, which ended the game.

Cody Koback (Plover, SPASH) collected four strikeouts and earned the win in game two with three hitless relief innings.

Fritz had a monster day at the plate, going 6 for 10 with three home runs, a double and 8 RBI. Rennicke chipped in with three hits and 7 RBI on the day.
