Pointers Take Pair from Fontbonne (Mo.)

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Pointers opened their spring trip to Florida on Sunday, securing a pair of wins over Fontbonne University, winning the first game 9-3 and took the second 8-4.

The first five Pointer runs came off homeruns in game one, as Jared Surman (Kimberly) went deep twice and Sam Spurney (Manitowoc, Lincoln) added a homerun of his own in the 14-hit victory. Garrett Nix (Osseo, Osseo-Fairchild) tallied the win in game one, throwing six strong innings while Jeff Zielke (Watertown) came on for the three inning save.

In game two, Kyle Barry (Twin Lakes, Wilmot) went six innings, racking up 10 strikeouts in the 8-4 victory. Jeremy Richter (Rosholt) led the way offensively including a two-run homerun. On the day Richter tallied four hits over the two games, including two doubles and a homerun.

The Pointers (3-1) return to action on Monday, March 16 in a doubleheader against Greenville (Ill.).
