Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN) scored with 11:53 to go in the third to break a 2-2 tie as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team skated to a 3-2 non-conference victory over the Oles of St. Olaf College on Friday evenings at Ice Hawks Arena.
The win improves UW-Stevens Point to 5-1 on the season, while the Oles fall to 0-1. The win is also the fifth straight for the Pointers after a season-opening loss.
St. Olaf took a 1-0 advantage in the first, as Kim McClintick scored on a power play opportunity for the Oles 2:08 into the first.
The Pointers answered in the second, as
Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL) scored a short-handed goal at the 3:21 mark, tying the score a 1-1.
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL) added an even strength goal at the 7:44 mark of the first to give UWSP the 2-1 edge, a lead that would hold through the second period.
In the third, St. Olaf tied the score at 2-2 as Nicole Stumpf again scored on the power play.
Stevens Point answered when Marvin found the back of the net off an
Amber Ostoff (North Mankato, MN) and Greenen pass midway through the third, giving the Pointers the edge and the victory, 3-2.
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI) earned the victory in goal for the Pointers, stopping 25 Oles shots including 11 in both the second and third periods.
UW-Stevens Point and St. Olaf take to the ice again tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena on Parents Day.
