- Faculty athletics representative to the WIAC, NCHA and NCAA for 22 years

- Highly respected throughout the conference for his knowledge of NCAA and WIAC eligibility rules

- A strong supporter of Pointer athletics, Thiesfeld retired in 1999 and taught in the Biology department for 34 years

- Inducted into the Luther College Athletics Hall of Fame in 1988, having competed in track and field and gymnastics
