GREENWOOD, Ind.—
Laney Panich (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma),
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) and
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) of the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team were recognized as College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees, announced Tuesday (Mar. 24).

Panich earned her first CSC Academic All-District honor. This season, she started in 25 games and played in all 26 games for the Pointers. The sophomore recorded 95 total points this season, including a free-throw percentage of .583, a field goal percentage of .324 and a three-point percentage of .234. Panich pulled down 77 rebounds, made 20 steals and assisted on 41 buckets for the Pointers.
Rice received her first CSC Academic All-District recognition. She started and played in all 26 games for the Pointers this season. The senior recorded 451 points, including a free-throw percentage of .842, a field goal percentage of .449 and a three-point percentage of .261. She secured 194 total rebounds, 44 steals and 67 assists on the season. Rice was named WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 3-9, earned All-WIAC first-team honors, D3hoops All-Region first team, played in the WBCA Collegiate All-Star game at the Division III National Championship and recorded her 1000
th career point at UW-La Crosse on February 14.
Smith earned her first CSC Academic All-District honor. This season, she started and played in all 26 games for the Pointers. The junior recorded 250 points, including a free-throw percentage of .727, a field goal percentage of .373 and a three-point percentage of .358. She pulled down 115 total rebounds, 21 seals and assisted 27 buckets for the Pointers this season. Smith received All-WIAC honorable mention honors at the end of the season.
The Pointers ended their season in the first round of the WIAC tournament with a record of 15-11.
Student-athletes selected must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, be a sophomore and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games.
