MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team had a successful day at the Cornell Invitational on Sunday. Every singles participant for the Pointers earned at least one win.
Results
In singles flight A,
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) each won once. Benoy took his match, 6-0, 6-1. Diehl won in round two, 6-4, 6-3.
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) and
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) won both of their matches in flight B. Froemming won 6-4, 7-5 and in round two, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5. Janes won 6-2, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-2.
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) won his only match in flight C, 6-0, 6-0.
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) went 2-0 on the day with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 7-6 (6) wins.
Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) won both of their matches in flight D. Schreier had wins by 6-3, 7-5 and 6-0, 6-1 scores. Hendrickson won by 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0 scores.
In flight E,
Brady Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and
Ben Temple (Rockford, Ill./Lutheran) both went 2-0. Wierzbicki went 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 and won in round two, 6-2, 6-3. Temple earned 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0 victories.
Alexander Sedlacek (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and
Samuel Zapata (Envigado, Col./Colegio Colombo Britanico) each won their lone matches in flight F. Sedlacek needed a super-breaker to win, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3. Zapata picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win.
In doubles play, Froemming and Janes earned a round two win in flight B, 6-4. Rice and Knuth won both matches in flight C, 6-1 and 6-1.
Schreier and Hendrickson also went 2-0 in flight D with 6-1 and 6-4 victories. Wierzbicki and Temple took both matches in flight E, 6-0 and 6-3.
Connor Paullin (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and Zapata were victorious in flight F, 6-1.
The Pointers return to action on Saturday (Sept. 21) with a 12:00 p.m. match at Olivet Nazarene.
