Four members of the UW-Stevens Point baseball team were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday (June 4). Senior
Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), juniors
Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and
Logan Homolka (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) along with sophomore
Kenny Schultz (Plover, Wis./SPASH) earned honors.

Baumann garners his first career academic all-district honor. He started all 43 games and was named to the All-WIAC honorable mention squad. He hit .304 and tied for second on the team with eight home runs. He hit two triples, tied for the team lead, and had a .518 slugging percentage, fourth-best on the team. Bauman picked up WIAC Player of the Week honors in May after he hit four home runs over the final six games of the regular season. He had 15 multi-hit games, including a season-best 4-for-5 performance in a win at UW-Whitewater.

Beyer nabs his second-straight academic all-district nod. He pitched in 12 games and made two starts on the season. He posted a 2-1 record with a 7.18 earned run average. Beyer struck out 30 hitters in 36.1 innings pitched and walked just one batter on the season. Both of his victories on the season came against WIAC foes and he struck out a season-high seven in a win at UW-Oshkosh.

Homolka also collects his second-consecutive academic all-district award. He started 31 of the 33 games he played in this season. He hit .318 on the season, fourth-best on the team. He drove in 24 runs and scored 28 times. Homolka was 5-for-5 in stolen bases, one of three Pointers with at least five steals without being caught.

Schultz earns his first career academic all-district selection. He started all nine games he appeared in this season. He went 4-4 with a 5.03 earned run average. He was second on the staff in both innings pitched (48.1) and strikeouts (40). Schultz struck out a season-high seven hitters three times, all victories. He earned All-WIAC honorable mention team accolades after the season.

The Pointers finished 26-17 overall and third in the WIAC. UWSP posted wins over ranked teams five times, including a win over top-ranked Endicott in March.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
