Men’s Hockey Ties UWRF in First Game of WIAC Semis

Box Score STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 7 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (19-5-2) skated to a 4-4 tie in the first game of the WIAC Tournament semifinals (presented by Culver's) against UW-River Falls (16-9-3).
 
The Pointers opened the scoring just 1:28 into the game with a power-play goal from Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.). Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) had an assist on the play.
 
UWSP upped the lead to 2-0 at 4:16 of the first period. Adam Rajsigl (Windsor, Ont.) flipped the puck in from beyond the blue line and it hopped over the goaltender for his first collegiate goal. Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) had the helper on the goal.
 
The Falcons responded after the media timeout with goals at 11:05 and 14:48 to send the game to intermission tied at 2-2.
 
UWRF was awarded a penalty shot at 4:38 of the second period. Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made the save to keep the game tied.
 
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) gave the Pointers the lead again at 7:10 of the second, scoring his second shorthanded goal of the season. Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn.) assisted on the goal.
 
The Falcons tied the game at 18:54 of the second to send the game to the third period, tied at 3-3.
 
The Pointers scored on the power play at 2:08 of the third period. Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) buried a feed from Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) and Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) for a 4-3 lead.
 
UWRF got a shorthanded goal at 8:37 of the third and neither team could tally a game winner the rest of the way or in overtime.
 
Proctor made 34 saves in net for the Pointers. UWRF goaltenders Dean Buchholz and Dysen Skinner combined for 35 saves.
 
The Pointers and Falcons play game two of the semifinals on Saturday (Feb. 24) at K.B. Willett Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. and the winner advances to the WIAC title game.
