Fris Earns 200 IM Win on Second Day of WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis. -- The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team wrapped up day two of the WIAC Championships (presented by Culver's). The UWSP men moved to second with a score of 179, while the UWSP women remain in third with a team score of 116.
 
Results
 
For the women, Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) won the 200-yard IM with a new conference-best time of 2:07.95. She crushed the previous conference and her personal-best time of 2:10.43 from the Wheaton Invitational (Dec. 1-2).
 
Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.36. Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) also took a fourth-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 384.10.
 
The relay unit of Fris, Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield), Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) and Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:58.39.
 
Hannah Scherwinski (Kenosha, Wis.) registered an eighth-place finish in the congested field of the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.80.
 
For the men, Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) took second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:52.82.
 
Freshman Camden Barwick (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.80.
 
The relay unit of Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Will Nicol (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), Grimstad and Barwick logged a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:21.59.
 
Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) took fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.27.
 
The Pointers resume action at the WIAC Championships on Friday (Feb. 16). Day three of the championships are set to start with prelims at 10:00 a.m.
