MADISON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team had five wins on the first day of the WIAC Championships (presented by Culver's).
Results
UWSP's No 3 double pair of
Allie Brosteau (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) and
Abigail Ashley (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) won their first-round match in tiebreak fashion, 8-7 (7). The duo will play for third place on Sunday.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) won their first-round match by injury default. They will also play for third place on Sunday at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play,
Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) prevailed in her first-round match at No. 2. She won by tiebreak, 7-6 (6), in the first set and took the second set, 6-4.
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) got a 7-5, 6-4 win in the opening round at No. 3 singles. Brosteau was victorious at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Scharf forced a super-breaker at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set, 6-4, she won the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4). In the super-breaker, she fell short, 10-7.
The Pointers wrap up action at the WIAC Championships on Sunday (Oct. 27) beginning at 9:00 a.m.
