UWSP Men Head the Field, Women Hold Second After Day One of the Point Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team hosted day one of the annual Point Invite. The UWSP men lead with a score of 694 currently 52 points ahead of second-place Gustavus Adolphus, while the UWSP women rest in second with a team score of 556.

For the men, the team of Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah), Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Camden Barwick (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) logged a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.58.
 
Grimstad tacked on first-place finishes in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.73 and in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.85.
 
Mason Releford (Vacaville, Cal./Vacaville Christian) registered a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.57.
 
Larsen won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.10.
 
The relay unit of Grimstad, Biscan, Kody Hellenbrand (Madison, Wis./East) and Barwick took second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:33.52.
 
Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) added a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.48.
 
Freshmen Declan Trant (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Barwick took second-place finishes. Trant took second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 416.65. Barwick took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.28.
 
For the women, the team of Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North), Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther), Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) and Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) took a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.83.
 
Ernst logged a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.39.
 
Hannah Scherwinski (Kenosha, Wis.) and Scheglowski took second-place finishes. Scherwinski took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:35.44. Scheglowski took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.71.
 
The relay squad of Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West), Mimi Trenary (Moline, Ill./Moline), Vandenberg, and Hansen managed a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:11.80.
 
The Pointers resume action at the Point Invite on Saturday (Jan. 20). The remainder of the invite is set to start with prelims at 10:00 a.m.
