Box Score 2 PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The No. 15 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (5-0) remained unbeaten with a pair of sweeps at the WIAC/NACC Quad on Wednesday. UWSP took down host Lakeland (1-3), 3-0, before getting past St. Norbert (2-3) in a 3-0 win.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led all players with 11 kills in the win over Lakeland, the only player with double-figure kills. In the nightcap,
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a team-high 10 kills, her first career match in double digits.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) posted a double-double against SNC with a team-high 17 assists to go with 10 digs. She had a game-high 23 assists against the Muskies.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) had a solid night as well. She led UWSP with 10 digs and added seven kills against LU. She had 11 more digs and five kills versus SNC.
UWSP 3, Lakeland 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-13)
The Pointers bolted out to a 4-0 lead behind a pair of aces by Michalske in the opening set. Kopp later served consecutive aces and UWSP never trailed.
Michalske had back-to-back aces in a 4-0 spurt as UWSP began to battle back midway through the second set. With UWSP trailing 22-19,
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) sparked a run with a kill. Kopp had two kills and
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had back-to-back blocks as UWSP closed the set with a 6-0 run.
Larson and Thomka combined on a block as UWSP started a 3-0 run for the first lead of the third set. Kopp had three kills and Paukner added two in an 11-0 run by UWSP to pull away.
Summer Salettel (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) had three late kills and
Mady Hanse (Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk) finished the match with a kill.
UWSP 3, SNC 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-21)
Meredith Milz (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) had 15 assists, a season high and her second match of double-figure assists on the year. Kopp had a team-high 16 digs with
Ryleigh Zeller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also in double-digits with 12. Kopp added four blocks against the Green Knights.
The Pointers head to Illinois for the weekend at the IWU Tournament I. UWSP will face Concordia (Wis.) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 8) to begin the three-match weekend.
