Men Win 23rd Consecutive WIAC Championship, Women Finish Third

BROWN DEER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's swimming and diving team won their 23rd straight WIAC Championship, finishing with 907 points, 54 points ahead of the second-place finishing team. The women finished third place with a score of 554 points.  

Results 

Caiden Kuehn (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.07. Rhys Gibbs (Colgate, Wis./Arrowhead Union) and Scott Jenn (Madison, Wis./Memorial) followed in second and third place with times of 1:54.96 and 1:55.35, respectively.  

Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon) finished in second place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:51.94. Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) followed closely behind to finish third with a time of 1:52.31.  

Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon) took fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.40.  

Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) finished fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:38.24. 

Evan Plummer (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) placed fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 469.50.  

The relay team of Will Lennertz (Muskego, Wis./Franklin), Matthew Loy (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights), Larsen and Miller took fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:11.09.  

Loy took sixth place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.18, touching the wall less than a second after the first-place finisher.  

On the women's side, Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.43. This is the first time the women have won this event since the 2008 WIAC Championship.  

The relay team of Brooke Buck (Janesville, Wis./AZVA Academy), Fris, Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther) and Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) finished in third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:33.13.  

Buck came in fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.09, finishing less than three seconds behind the first-place finisher.  

Tiana Cachuela (Oakdale, Minn./Park) placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.01.  

Mimi Trenary (Moline, Ill./Moline) finished eighth place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.13.  

Paige Anderson (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake Area) took 10th place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:43.32.  

The Pointers will wait to hear if any swimmers qualify for the national championship held in March.
