BROWN DEER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team took one event in the first day of the WIAC Championships. After day one, the men are in second with 72 points, only two points behind the first-place team. The women are in fourth place with 84 points, only two points behind the third-place team.
Results
The relay team of Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon), Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) and Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.12. They touched the wall 1.8 seconds before the second-place finisher.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of Kody Hellenbrand (Madison, Wis./East), Caiden Kuehn (Eagan, Minn./Eagan), Will Lennertz (Muskego, Wis./Franklin) and Peter McMahon (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) finished third with a time of 6:53.23.
On the women's side, the relay team of Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther), Kate Henson (Morrison, Ill./Morrison), Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) and Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) finished third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.98.
Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) finished fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 403.70.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of Brooke Buck (Janesville, Wis./AZVA Academy), Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West), Paige Anderson (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake Area) and Signe Alger (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter) finished in fourth place with a time of 7:52.26.
The Pointers will compete in day two of the WIAC Championships on Thursday (Feb. 16). Preliminaries are set to start at 10:00 a.m.
