UWSP Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Lead After Day One of the Wheaton Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. -- The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team traveled to Illinois to compete at the Wheaton Invite. The UWSP women lead with a score of 428 currently 20 points ahead of second-place Wheaton, while the UWSP men Are ahead with a score of 466 currently 60 points ahead of second-place Wheaton.

Event Results I Team Scores

The UWSP women were led by Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) who registered a win in the 200-yard backstroke clocking a time of 2:04.94 and a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.86.

Tiana Cachuela (Oakdale, Minn./Park) logged a win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.52.

The team of Fris, Mimi Trenary (Moline, Ill./Moline), Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) and Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) earned a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:00.84.

Freshman Hannah Scherwinski (Kenosha, Wis.) added a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:18.05.

Trenary finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.70.

The relay team of Joy Vanderberg, Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther), Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) and Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.54.
 
The UWSP men were headed by Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) who logged the Pointers first individual victory of the evening in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:52.96.

Matthew Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) tacked on another first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.05.

Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon) registered a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:53.55 which was 6. 7 seconds ahead of the next best finisher.

The team of Miller, Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah), Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Camden Barwick (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) logged a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:22.27.

The relay unit of Grimstad, Miller, Larsen, and Barwick registered a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:23.60.

Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon) logged a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.22.

Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) earned a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:46.64.
