WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team traveled to UW-Whitewater to face off in their second conference dual of the season. The UWSP women finished with a score of 221 to UWW's 84, while the UWSP men finished with a score of 201 to UWW's 114.
Results
Freshman
Hannah Scherwinski (Kenosha, Wis.) led the Pointers efforts for the women with three first-place finishes. She took first in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM with respective times of 2:06.09, 5:32.82 and 5:08.08.
Carolyn Powell (Olney, Ill./Richland County) added two first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.79 and in the 200-yard breaststroke clocking a time of 2:38.16. She also took second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:25.02.
Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.28 and won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.51.
Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) added two first-place finishes to her resume, taking the 1-meter dive with a score of 240.95 and winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 244.15.
Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther) and
Tiana Cachuela (Oakdale, Minn./Park) both added a first-place and second-place finish each. Ernst won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.75 and took second in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 2:17.56. Cachuela won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:21.41 and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.57.
Freshman
Gracyn Schmitz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) tacked on two second-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle with time of 11:32.60 and 5:40.27, respectively.
Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 25.63.
Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) logged a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.61.
The relay team of Ernst,
Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield), Vandenberg and Hansen took the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.56.
Madeline Krzykowski (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln),
Paige Anderson (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake Area),
McKenzie Osowski (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) and
Maddy Magle (Sheboygan, Wis./Kohler) took first for the Pointers in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.59.
For the men, freshman diver
Declan Trant (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the way for the Pointers with two first-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive with respective times of 312.50 and 263.95.
Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) logged a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.85. He also raced to two second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle with time of 55.93 and 1:49.22, respectively.
Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon) took the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.87 and registered a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.41.
Freshman
Matthew Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) earned a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.60.
Peter McMahon (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) added a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.15.
Mason Releford (Vacaville, Cal./Vacaville Christian) tacked on a first-place effort in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 2:16.43.
Jake Larson won the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:25.51.
Grady Trask (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) was the top finisher for the Pointers in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing second with a time of 2:10.55.
Camden Barwick (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.02.
Rhys Gibbs (Colgate, Wis./Arrowhead Union) earned his best placement of the season in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.68 to finish second.
Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:32.65 and fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.44.
Larson, Miller, Grimstad and Barwick raced to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.66.

Matthew Loy (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) and
Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) logged a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.38.
The Pointers will travel to the Wheaton Invite on Friday, Dec. 1. The meet is set to start at 9:30 a.m.
